Weiner elevated to full-time coaching status at Keene State

KEENE, N.H. 4/1/11 – Keene State College Athletic Director John Ratliff has announced that Owl women’s volleyball coach Bob Weiner has been elevated to full-time status.

Weiner has had unprecedented success since taking over the program in 2005, posting a 141-76 (.650 pct.) overall record and an impressive 31-9 (.775 pct.) mark in the Little East Conference.  “Bob already has more winning seasons than in the whole history of the program, so that’s a good indication that we’re hiring the right person,” said Ratliff.

Weiner said he’s excited about the change in status and looking forward to giving more time to the program.  “During the past six years, I’ve also taught a full academic load,” he said.  “I was doing a full-time job in addition to my coaching responsibilities.  This will allow me to focus on my job as coach of the Keene State women’s volleyball team.”

Under the direction of Weiner, the Owls captured their first-ever LEC tournament title and NCAA berth in 2008.  That season, KSC set a program record for wins with 29.  Keene State also claimed the conference regular season title in 2007.   Last fall, the Owls went 27-12 (6-1 LEC) advancing to the LEC championship game and winning the program’s first ECAC crown.

Weiner, who has an overall career record of 374-354, came to Keene State after serving as the sports information director at Pine Manor College. He held the position of head women's volleyball coach at Iona (N.Y.) College, Assumption College, Montana State-Northern University, Macalester (Minn.) College, and Franklin Pierce College.

“This is the longest I’ve been anywhere.  I’ve found a home.  I love it here,” said Weiner.  “Once we started to build the program and win, athletes wanted to come here and play.”

Weiner becomes the ninth full-time coach at Keene State College.
