Walsh Races to Strong NCAA Time in Steeplechase at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. 4/27/12 – Even though there are no more automatic qualifications for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, Keene State College senior Andrea Walsh (Bolton, Conn.) has basically just punched her ticket to the meet later in the year in Claremont, California in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

"Andrea had a great race," said KSC head track coach Peter Thomas. "Her workouts have been very good lately and we knew she was capable of a good race if she had a good night, and she did."

Walsh finished the race in 10:46.41 to finish in 11th place in the College Women's 3000m Steeplechase race at 8:15 on Thursday night.

"That is a time that should get her to NCAA's," said Thomas. "I would be absolutely shocked if it didn't."

The Owls have a quick turnaround, as they will head to Westfield State University on Saturday, for the Alliance/Little East Conference Championships set to begin at 11 a.m.
