NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. 2/20/12 – Three Keene State College student-athletes were named Little East Conference Athletes of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Field Athlete of the Week
Janel Haggerty (Guilford, Conn.), Junior, Keene State College
Haggerty shattered the Keene State program-record for the pentathlon at the New England Division III Championships this past weekend. The junior from Guilford, Conn. totaled 3,139 points to best the three-year record of 2,758 points set by Vanessa Ward. On Friday night, Haggerty captured both the 800 (2:25.28) and high jump (5-1.75) events to record a third place finish. She also had personal bests in the 60 meter hurdles (9.72) and shot put (24'-11.75'') on the night.
Swimmer of the Week
Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.), Senior, Keene State College
O'Leary won all three butterfly races at the 2012 New England Division II-III Championships this past weekend. The senior from Nashua, N.H. posted an NCAA Championship B qualifying time in the 200 butterfly, when she touched the wall at two minutes, 6.54 seconds. O'Leary also stood atop the awards podium with her performance in the 50 (26.27) and 100 (56.88) butterfly races, respectively. She was also a member of the Owls' 200 and 400 medley relay teams that finished second.
Rookie Swimmer of the Week
Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.), Freshman, Keene State College
Pimer captured the 200 individual medley this past weekend at the New England Division II-III Championships to help Keene State place second in the team standings. The freshman from West Haven, Conn. tripped the timer at two minutes, 10.15 seconds to win the individual medley. She also finished second in the 400 individual medley (4:37.67) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.15). Pimer also swam a leg of the Owls' 200 and 400 freestyle medley teams that placed second.
