Radlof Qualifies at Tufts Last Chance Decathlon

Tufts University hosted a Last Chance Decathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday last week (April 22-23), giving six athletes the chance to hit qualifying marks for the decathlon before championship season kicks off next weekend.   Sophomore Frank Radlof won the event with 5820 points--only 180 points from an NCAA provisional quaifying mark and ranks him 4th overall in D-III New England.  The highlight of the event for Radlof was in the long jump, in which he jumped 6.88 meters (22' 7") good for 785 points.  His day-1 total was an impressive 3332 points which included a 100m time of 11.62 (728 points) 1.83 m high jump (653 points) and 52.79 seconds in the 400m (691 points).  With this effort Radlof qualified for the D-III New Englands and the ECAC Championships which will be held in the coming weeks.

The LEC Track Championships

At the LEC Championships this past weekend, the women team had six first place finishes [100 meters - Laura Kintz- 13.34 seconds; 100 meter hurdles - Kaley Griffin - 16.08 seconds; 4 x 100 meter relay (Laura Kintz, Kimber Stannard, Kaley Griffin, Shaylin Deignan - 50.06 seconds); Javelin - Samantha Hirsh - 37.15 meters (121' 10"); Shot Put (Bryanna Brown - 11.52 meters (37' 9.5") and High Jump -Crystal Blamy - 1.67 meters (5' 5.75")] and 3 second places finshers [Shaylin Deignan - 100 meters - 13.47 seconds; Katelyn Carr - 800 meter run - 2:21.52 minutes; 4 x 400 meter relay - Shaylin Deignan, Laura Kintz, Katelyn Carr, Amy Knoblock- 4:19.57 minutes].   On the men's side in the LEC championships the Men had 6 first place finishes [Brian Kolacz ( Shotput - 1.85 meters - 45' 5.25"; Discus, 44.59 meters - 146' 3"; Hammer, 49.12 meters - 161' 2); Frank Radlof  (Long Jump 6.74 meters - 22' 1.5" and Triple Jump -13.33 meters - 43' 9") ;  10000 meter run - Eric Macknight - 32.18.85 minutes and 4 second place finishers [Frank Radlof - High Jump (1.83 meters - 6') and 110 meter Hurdles (16.49 seconds) and Javelin (52.48 meters - 172' 2) ; Craig MacPherson - 800 meter run -  (1:57.11 minutes)]

Owls have "Field Day"  at LEC Championships

With regard to the Alliance and LEC championships on Saturday, I would hazard a guess that Brian Kolacz's triple LEC win (Shot Put, 1.85 meters - 45' 5.25" - a new KSC school record ; Discus, 44.59 meters - 146' 3"; Hammer, 49.12 meters - 161' 2") is a first time one athlete has won all three of these events at this meet since the LEC was formed.  And he scored 30 of the teams 125 points in the LEC Champioinships.  Quite an accomplishment.    Also, it should be noted that Frank Radlof scored 42 of the teams 125 points in the LEC Championships which is an amazing accomplishment as well with first place finishes in the Long Jump (6.74 meters - 22' 1.5") and Triple Jump (13.33 meters - 43' 9") and 2nd place finishes in the High Jump (1.83 meters - 6') and 110 meter Hurdles (16.49 seconds) and Javelin (52.48 meters - 172' 2").  And all this was accomplished just 3 days after he won the Tufts Last Chance Decathlon with the 4th highest point total in D-III New England this year.
