Seven Owls named to All-LEC Swim Team

KEENE, N.H.  12/7/10 – Keene State placed seven athletes on the All-Little East women’s swim team announced on Tuesday.  The All-LEC teams are based on performances at last weekend’s LEC championship.

Junior Jill Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.) and sophomore Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.) top the list of Owl recipients.  Each received first-team honors in two individual and relay events.    Whitaker earned first-team honors in the 100 and 200 breast while Umbarger received first-team recognition in the 50 and 100 free races.  They were both members of the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.

Junior Maureen O’Leary (Nashua, N.H.) received first-team honors in to 100 and 200 fly and second-team honors in the 200 free. She was also on the winning 200 medley relay.

Senior Jessica Laidley (Brockton, Mass.) earned first-team honors with her first place finish in the 1,000 free.

Several KSC freshmen were also recognized by the conference.  Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) earned second-team honors 200 back and 400 individual medley and first-team honors in the 400 free relay.  Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) received second team honors in the 500 and 1,000 free and Lianna Wissmann (Orleans, Mass.) earned second-team honors in the 100 back and first-team honors in the both 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Keene State College won nine of the 16 events to capture the program's fifth consecutive and eighth overall Little East Women's Swimming and Diving Championship last Saturday at UMass-Dartmouth.
