Little East honors two Owls
KEENE, N.H. 1/25/10 - The Little East Conference honored two Keene State student athletes on Monday. Freshman Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named rookie women's swimmer of the week while sophomore Derek D'Amours (Agawam, Mass.) was selected to the men's basketball honor roll.
In Keene State's lone meet of the week, Umbarger won a pair of races to lead the Owls past Bentley University. She was the first swimmer to touch the wall in the 50 freestyle (24.54) and the 100 butterfly (59.69) events. She also swam a leg in the victorious 200 medley (1:52.28) and 400 freestyle (3:42.82) relay races.
D'Amours averaged 24 points and seven rebounds in the Owls' 2-1 week. He had 26 points and eight rebounds in a 101-74 win over Lasell and 25 points and eight rebounds in a 86-78 victory against UMass-Boston.
