NCAA Swim: Owl women reach finals in three events on Thursday
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. 3/18/10 – The Keene State College women competed in three final events at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota on Thursday.
Senior Kristine Trutor (Holden, Mass.) finished 11th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.59. Earlier in the day, she set a school record (56.48) in the preliminaries.
The Owl 400 medley relay team of seniors Jackie Foster (Goffstown, N.H.) and Trutor, sophomore Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.), and freshman Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed 11th with a time of 3:54.07. The foursome set a KSC record (3:53.84) in the morning preliminary race.
Keene State’s 200 free relay team of seniors Alea Paddock (Newbury, N.H.) and Trutor, Whitaker and Umbarger finished in 14th place with a time of 1:37.03.
All KSC swimmers who qualified for the finals earned honorable mention All-America honors in their respective events.
Several Owl swimmers competed in the morning preliminary races. Senior Cody Larrimore (Trappe, Md.) placed 33rd in the 100 fly (51.10).
Umbarger finished 38th in the women’s 100 fly (58.61). Foster placed 37th in the 200 free (1:54.55) and 41st in the 500 free (5:08.77.
Through 20 events, the Keene State women are in 13th place with 52 points. Emory College leads with 297 points.
On Friday, Trutor will compete in the 100 back and Whitaker will swim in the 100 breast race.
