LEC Announces Weekly Awards

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. 2/01/10 - The Little East Conference honored six owls in their weekly awards this week.

Women's Indoor Track and Field

Track Athlete of the Week
Allison Chamberlain (Scarborough, Maine), Junior, Keene State College
Chamberlain posted an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time in the mile race this past weekend at the Boston University Classic. The Scarborough, Maine product covered the mile course in a time of four minutes, 56.7 seconds to place fourth overall among Division I, II, and III runners. She also ran a leg in the Owls' distance medley team (12:10.94) that placed fourth.

Men's Indoor Track and Field

Field Athlete of the Week
Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.), Junior, Keene State College
Kolacz posted both a personal best and a Keene State record mark in the weight throw at the Boston University Invitational this past weekend. The native of Brentwood, N.H. launched the 35-pound weight 60'-1.75" to defeat 42 other competitors from all three NCAA divisions.  He also placed 19th in the shot put with a mark of 44'-5.25".

Women's Swimming and Diving

Swimmer of the Week
Alea Paddock (Newbury, N.H.), Senior, Keene State College

In Keene State's lone meet, Paddock won two individual races and combined to capture a pair of team relays against Gordon College. The native of Newbury, N.H. touched the wall first in the 400 individual medley (4:53.02) and the 50 breaststroke (31.70). She also swam a leg of the winning 200 medley (1:56.25) and 800 freestyle (7:55.32) relays. The 800 freestyle team shattered the previous Owls' record and is just three seconds off posting a NCAA Division III provisional time.

Rookie Swimmer of the Week
Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.), Freshman, Keene State College
Umbarger was a triple-winner for Keene State against Gordon on Saturday, touching the wall first in the 50 freestyle (24.91), 100 freestyle (54.60), and the 50 butterfly (26.57). The Owls defeated the Fighting Scots, 106-58.

Men's Basketball

Rookie of the Week
Eric Fazio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Freshman, Forward, Keene State College
Fazio averaged 16.5 points to help lead Keene State to a pair of Little East wins and move into a three-way tie for third place in the conference standings. The Hopewell Junction, N.Y. product reached double figures in scoring in each contest. On Jan. 26, he scored 15 points on an efficient five of six from the floor to lift the Owls past intra-state rival Plymouth State. Four days later, Fazio registered his third highest single-game point total of the season against Southern Maine with an 18-point effort.  For the week, he connected on 57.9 percent (11-for-19) from the field and 68.8 percent (11-for-18) from the foul line.

Women's Basketball

Honor Roll
Kristin Degou (Newburyport, Mass.), Senior, Keene State College
Degou who hit all five of her three-point attempts, scored 15 of her 19 points in the first half in the 69-62 Little East victory over the University of Southern Maine on Saturday. On the week the Newburyport, Mass. native averaged 19.3 points per game in a 2-1 week for the Owls.
