Women's Swimming and Diving Sweeps LEC Weekly Awards; Kolacz and Knoblock Honored for Track and Field

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. 12/7/09 - The Keene State College women's swimming and diving team swept the four LEC weekly awards for their efforts in their 4th consecutive Little East Conference Championships and seventh overall. Also taking awards, Brian Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.) and Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) for field and track athlete of the week respectively.

Women's Swimming and Diving

Swimmer of the Week
Jackie Foster (Goffstown, N.H.), Senior, Keene State College
Foster established a new championship meet record in each of her three individual races this past weekend at the 2009 Little East Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Goffstown, N.H. product posted an NCAA provisional standard in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 17 minutes, 33.63 seconds. Foster continued to dominate the freestyle events, capturing the 200 (1:58.08) and 500 (5:13.65) events, respectively. She also swam a leg in the recording-breaking 400-yard freestyle relay as Keene State won its fourth consecutive conference championship.

Rookie Swimmer of the Week
Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.), Freshman, Keene State College
Umbarger set a new program and meet record this past weekend at the 2009 Little East Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The native of Chelmsford, Mass. qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.74 seconds. Umbarger also combined with three other teammates to win the 200-medley relay. 

Diver of the Week
Rachel Battis (Beacon Falls, Conn.), Junior, Keene State College
Battis won the one-meter diving competition at the 2009 Little East Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Dec. 5. The Beacon Falls, Conn. product was the lone athlete in the six-person field to eclipse the 200 point barrier (201.55). She also placed second on the three-meter board (171.25).

Rookie Diver of the Week
Jaclyn Rando (Walpole, Mass.), Freshman, Keene State College
Rando captured the three-meter diving event at the Little East Conference Championships on Saturday, recording 181.10 total points.  The Walpole, Mass. product placed second on the one-meter board with 195.85 points as Keene State placed 1-2 in both diving events.

Field Athlete of the Week
Brian Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.), Junior, Keene State College
Kolacz launched an NCAA provisional throw of 18.06 meters (59'-3'') on his first throw in the 35-pound weight event at the Smith College Invitational. The junior also won the shot put with a throw of 13.51 meters (44'-4''). 

Track Athlete of the Week
Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.), Junior, Keene State College
Knoblock qualified provisionally for the New England Division III Championships in the 800-meter event this past weekend. She covered the event in a time of two minutes, 27.86 seconds to place second at the Smith College Invitational.
