Five Owls Honored by the Little East
KEENE, N.H. 1/28/08 - Five Keene State athletes were honored by the Little East Conference on Monday. Kristine Trutor (Holden, Mass.) and Chelsea Peruccio (Glastonbury, Conn.) were named women's swimmer and diver of the week respectively, John Napolitano (Providence, R.I.) and Crystal Blamy (Walpole, N.H.) were selected as field athletes of the week, and Nicole Simmler (Oxford, Mass.) was named to the women's basketball honor roll.
In two meets, Trutor won five individual events and two team races
as Keene State College posted a 1-1 record. On Wednesday, the
sophomore earned three victories at Bridgewater State, winning the
50-yard butterfly (27.22), 100-yard butterfly (1:02.06), and the
100-yard backstroke (1:02.35). Three days later, she recorded wins
in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.23) and 200-yard backstroke
(2:13.98) against Division II Bentley
College.
Peruccio, a sophomore, won the one-meter and three-meter diving
competitions at Bentley College this past weekend. She scored
220.15 points on the one-meter and 219.35 points on the
three-meter.
Napolitano won the weight throw competition at the Wesleyan
Invitational this past weekend with a throw of 15.01 meters and
breaking the school record set back in 1996. The senior defeated
nine other Little East Conference participants in the field
for his second career 1st place finish.
Blamy posted an automatic NCAA Division III Championship qualifying
and school record with her winning mark of 5.75 feet in the high
jump at the Boston University Terrier Invitational this past
weekend. She broke her own Keene State College record of 5.68 feet
set last weekend. Blamy defeated a field consisting of Div. I, II,
and III competitors.
Simmler averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the Owls two games. She had 16 points and five rebounds in a 80-62 win over rival Plymouth State and 17 points and nine rebounds in a 58-53 setback against national ranked Southern Maine.
