Mixed Results for Owl Swim/Dive Teams

WALTHAM, MASS. 1/26/08 - Keene State College swimming teams had mixed results against Bentley College in a dual meet held Saturday afternoon in Waltham, Mass.  The Keene State men remained undefeated (7-0) with 180-118 victory while the Owl women (9-1) lost to the Falcons 157-143 in a meet decided on the final race. 


The Keene State men won 13 of 16 events.  Sophomores Cody Larrimore (Trappe, Md.) and Mike Fedele (Sandwich, Mass.) won three races each.  Larimore posted wins in the 100 breast (1:02.08), 100 free (48.81), and 100 fly (54.83). Fedele prevailed in the 200 free (1:49.30), 200 breast (2:17.04), and the 200 IM (2:04.96).   

 

Freshman Dan Theleen (Southbury, Conn.) was a double-winner, taking the 1,000 free (10:23.49) and the 500 free (5:03.04).  Single wins came from freshman Connor Pennoyer (Norwalk, Conn.) in the 200 fly (2:06.48), freshman Karl Balinski (Waterford, Conn.) in the 50 free (22.38), and freshman Mike Germane (Barrington, R.I.) in the 200 back (2:03.55).  Sophomore Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.) Germane, Pennoyer, and Larrimore teamed up to win the 200 medley relay (1:39.61).  Germane, Balinski, Pennoyer, and Fedele joined forces to win the 400 free relay.

 

Bentley College nipped the Owls (3:44.60 to 3:44.70) in the 400 medley relay to win the women's meet.  The KSC team of senior Kelly Yankowski (Turners Falls, Mass.), sophomore Kelly Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) and Jackie Foster (Bedford, N.H.) and freshman Rachel Mondello (Stoneham, Mass.) just came up short in the race.

 

Sophomore Kristine Trutor (Holden, Mass.) won the 100 back (1:01.23) and the 200 back (2:13.98) and sophomore Chelsea Peruccio (Glastonbury, Conn.) won both the one-meter (220.15 points) and the three-meter (219.35 points) diving events.  Other victories were turned in by Mondello in the 50 free (25.12), and Foster in the 500 free (5:20.62).  Trutor, Mondello, Yankowski, and Alea Paddock (Newbury, N.H.) won the 200 medley relay (1:55.13).

Two great swims were turned in by Trutor and Mondello, who earned themselves trips to ECAC OPEN championship meet in Pittsburgh.  Rachel qualified for the ECAC
meet in the 50 free and Krissy made a qualifying time in the 100 back and a provisional time in the 200 back.  Krissy broke her won record in the 200 back. 


Keene State wraps up its dual meet season next Saturday at home against Gordon College.
