Dempsey's Earn NSCAA All-New England 2nd Team Honors

KEENE, N.H. 12/16/11 – The honors just keep on coming for Melissa and Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.), as the NSCAA has selected the twin-sisters to the All-New England Second Team for their efforts in the 2011 season.

"This is a tremendous honor," said KSC head coach Denise Lyons. "Replacing them on and off the field will be incredibly difficult and this award truly speaks to how valuable they were for us over there whole career."

Melissa Dempsey, who started all 25 games for the Owls at back, was a great offensive player as well for Keene State, tallying three goals and three assists for nine points on the season. The East Weymouth, Mass. native, tallied a career-high four points and scored the game winning goal against Little East Conference rival UMass Boston, back on September 17th. She also earned All-LEC 1st team honors her junior and senior year, as well as being selected to the NEWISA Division III senior bowl. Off the field, Melissa earned on the All-Little East Academic team all four years and majored in Architecture.

Megan Dempsey, who was named the LEC Defensive player of the year in 2011, was a rock in net for KSC the last three seasons. The senior netminder finished the campaign with a razor thin 0.94 goals against average, with 110 saves and a 15-7-3 overall record. On her way to posting 11 shutouts on the season, Dempsey also had a save percentage of .827. Earlier in the month, Dempsey was voted as the top goalkeeper in the NEWISA poll for Division III New England. Off the field, Megan was also a four-time member of the All-LEC Academic team and majored in Health, Promotion and Fitness.
