Owls Trounce Corsairs 19-1; Set Three School Records

           KEENE, N.H. 4/27/08 - The Keene State women's lacrosse team celebrated "Senior Day" with a dominating 19-1 Little East Conference victory over UMass-Dartmouth at Owl Athletic Complex on Sunday.

            With the win, Keene State (11-6, 4-2 LEC) earns the third seed in the upcoming LEC tournament and will hosts six seed Rhode Island College in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday.  The fourth seeded Corsairs (8-5, 3-3 LEC) host fifth seed Western Conn. in an opening-round game.

            "We were down after yesterday's performance and just came out ready to play," said KSC Coach Michelle Mason.  "It was also senior day, so we wanted to have a good showing from them."  

            The Owls' offensive explosion this spring has resulted in three season records being established.  KSC has already set new marks for goals (250), assists (131), and points (381) in a season.

            Leading 3-0, the Owls netted the next three goals in a one-minute span to go up 6-0.  KSC added five more goals to take an 11-0 halftime lead. 

            Freshman midfielder Jenny Lillis (West Islip, N.Y.) led the Owls with five goals.  Sophomore midfielder Dene Tully (Peabody, Mass.) had three goals, senior Michelle Mazzotta (Cromwell, Conn.), freshman attack Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and senior defender Andrea Mitchell (Bow, N.H.) chipped in with two goals each, and  freshman attack Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, Me.), senior attack Lanaya Nelson (Chester, Conn.), senior defender Merrill Simone (West Hartford, Conn.), and freshmen Missy Luzzi (Oakland, N.J.) and Kellie Olson (Spofford, N.H.) had one goal each.  Sawyer also had four assists.

            The Corsairs lone goal, on a free position by Marie Spang (Wakefield, Mass.), came midway in the second half.

            Junior goalie Jen Gearing (Westfield, Mass.) gave up just one goal while making six saves.  Freshman Meghan Ledoux (Standish, Me.) played the final 12 minutes and stopped one shot.

            Senior goalie Erin Doherty (West Newbury, Mass.) made 13 saves for UMD.
