Owls Fly By Falcons

 

KEENE, N.H. 3/13/08 - Freshman attack Jenny Lillis (West Islip, N.Y.) scored four goals and Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and Lanaya Nelson (Chester, Conn.) finished with three goals and three assists each to lead the Keene State women's lacrosse team to its first win of the season, a 16-1 non-conference victory over Fitchburg State at Owl Athletic Complex on Thursday.

            Keene State (1-2) will head to next week's trip to Hilton Head, S.C. with a win under its belt.  Fitchburg State (0-1) was playing its first game as a varsity program.

            Kirk netted two quick goals and Nelson added a single goals as the Owls went up 3-0 three minutes into the game.  After freshman Kaitlyn Kelly scored the Falcons first varsity goal, KSC finished the half with nine unanswered goals to take a 12-1 halftime lead.

            KSC Coach Michelle Mason was pleased with her team's performance in the fist half.  "The majority of our goals were off nice plays" she said.  The freshman did a nice job of maintaining possession and setting up plays."

            "We needed to win.  It will give us a boost as we get set for our Spring Week trip."

            Junior goalie Jenn Gearing (Westfield, Mass.) stopped three shots before giving way to freshman Meghan LeDoux (Standish, Me.) midway in the second half. 

            Senior Ashley Davison made 11 saves for the Falcons.  Sophomore played the final four minutes and stopped one shot.

            Keene State will play Bridgewater College of Virginia at Hilton head, S.C. on Wednesday, March 19.  Fitchburg plays at SUNY-Maritime on Saturday.
