Allenson named to Preseason All-America Softball team

KEENE, N.H. 2/12/09 - Keene State College's Katie Allenson has been named a preseason All-America in the inaugural issue of D3 Softball - The Newsletter.

Selected to the first team, Allenson, a junior third baseman from Clifton Park, N.Y., led the Owls in hitting (.477), homeruns (9), and RBIs (42) on the way to earning All-Region, All-New England, and All-Little East honors.

Allenson is looking forward to her senior season.  "I just want to do the best I can for the team," she said.  "There are so many freshmen coming in that I along with the other two seniors Jenna Patnode (Surry, N.H.) and Allie D'Amato (Bristol, Conn.) all have to step up our leadership role on and off the field.  It's a lot of pressure, but I'm really excited about the season."

"Katie has worked very hard to make herself a better player every year and it really showed last season," said KSC Coach Charlie Beach.  "This is a great honor for her and reflects all the work she's done the past few years."

Keene State finished last season with a 28-14 record and advanced to the championship round of the ECAC New England tournament.  The Owls open their season with their annual spring week trip to Fort Myers, Fla, March 15-21.
