Owl harriers move into national poll
KEENE, N.H. 9/23/09 - Keene State cross country coach Peter Thomas thought his teams' strong performance at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational last Saturday would earn the Owls a spot in the USTFCCA national Division III poll - and he was right.
Both Keene State men's and women's cross country teams made their inaugural appearance in the poll announced on Wednesday. Unranked the previous week, the KSC men, who captured the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational, raced up to 11th while the Owl women, who had a strong third place finish at UMD, secured the 28th spot in the poll.
"I actually thought the women would be ranked higher and the men a little lower," said Thomas. "The recognition is nice, but we can't hang our hats on one race."
It's the first time since the 2007 season that both KSC cross country teams were simultaneously ranked in the national men's and women's polls.
The Owls return to the trails on Saturday, Oct. 3 when they host the 15th Annual KSC Invitational.
