LEC Announces Weekly Awards

N. Dartmouth, Mass. 5/10/2010 – The Little East Conference awarded three Owls with weekly awards on Monday.

Male Track Athlete of the Week
Peter Najem (Derry, N.H.), Senior, Keene State College

Najem was the eighth runner to cross the finish line at the New England Open Championships this past weekend at Northeastern University. The senior from Derry, N.H. lowered his NCAA qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run to three minutes, 50.67 seconds. Najem also finished inside the top-10 in the 800-meter run (9th, 1:53.89).

Female Track Athlete of the Week
Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.), Sophomore, Keene State College

Competing at the New England Championships, Mills placed eighth in the 5,000 with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 17 minutes 28.20 seconds.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Dan Nelson (Glastonbury, Conn.), Junior, Keene State College

In his lone appearance of the week, Nelson helped Keene State College earn a share of the regular season title and the No. 2 seed in the Little East Baseball Championship with his shutout victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Friday. The junior from Glastonbury, Conn. threw six innings of three-hit ball, while striking out four and yielding just two walks. He did not surrender a hit to the last 11 batters he faced.
