MacPherson clocks NCAA 800-meter provisional time at Tufts Invitational
MEDFORD, MASS. - Keene State sophomore Craig MacPherson (Derry, N.H.) could be competing in a pair of races at the NCAA Indoor Championship.
Already qualified in the mile, MacPherson could also be in the 800-meter race after posting an NCAA provisional time (1:54.12) with his first place finish in the event at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday. Teammate, senior Peter Najem (Derry, N.H.) just missed a provisional time (1:54.97) with his second place finish.
Senior Sean Gavaghan (Monroe, Conn.)and sophomore Corey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.)also turned in first place performances. Gavaghan won the 5,000 (15:17.02) and Loonan topped the field in the 3,000 (8:53.98). Sophomore Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) placed second in the 1,000 (2:31.25) and third in the 5,000 (15:39.71).
Junior Jared Samuel (Londonderry, N.H.) and senior Jason Garrity (Topsfield, Mass.) were third (4:24.48) and fourth (4:24.95) respectively in the mile, and freshman Elias Grijalva took third in the 400 (51.76) and fifth in the long jump (20'-06.25").
Several KSC women posted season best marks. Senior Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) was fourth in the 600 (1:38.93), and freshman Sarah Titus (Derry, N.H.) placed fourth in the 800 (2:24.97.
In field events, junior Christina Bourbeau (Manchester, N.H.) was fifth in the pole vault (9'-09.00") and sophomore Bryanna Brown (Nashua, N.H.) was fifth in the shot put (38'-08.75").
Next Saturday, the Owls will compete at the Boston University Terrier Classic and the Little East championships.
