Owls Have a Field Day at LEC Alliance Championships
PROVIDENCE, R.I. 4/26/08 - Keene State athletes won 10 events at the Little East Conference Alliance track championships held at Rhode Island College in Providence on Saturday. Seven of the wins came in field events.
Both Owl men's and women teams placed third at the meet with 106.5 and 109 points respectively. Westfield State won the men's title with 145 points. Southern Maine claimed the women's championship with 174 points.
Keene State men had a big day in field events. Sophomore Frank Radlof (Milford, N.H.) won the long jump (22'-01.50"), triple jump (43'-09.00"), and placed second in the 110-hurdles (16.49). Freshman Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.) took first in the hammer (161'-02") and the discus (146'-03"), and second in the shot-put (45'-05.75). He improved on his KSC school record in the shot.
The Owls swept the top three positions in the 10,000. Freshman Eric Macknight (Newtown, Conn.) was first (32:18.85), followed by Timothy Pipp (New Ipswich, N.H.) second (32:30.26), and Sam Wood (Laconia, N.H.) third (33:25.56).
In other races, sophomore Craig MacPherson (Derry, N.H.) was second in the 800 (1:57.11) and freshman Brandon Schillemat (Nelson (N.H.) placed third in the 5,000 (15:35.97).
KSC women also won three field events. Senior Crystal Blamy (Walpole, N.H.) won the high jump (5'-5.75"), junior Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.) won the javelin (121'-10"), and freshman Bryanna Brown (Nashua, N.H.) won the shot-put (37'-09.50").
On the track, senior Laura Kintz (Jaffrey, N.H.) and Shaylin Deignan (Londonderry, N.H.) finished first (13.34) and second (13.47) respectively in the 100 dash. Sophomores Kimber Stannard (Higganum, Conn.) and Kaley Griffin (Manchester, N.H.) and Kintz and Deignan combined to win the 4x100 relay (50/06).
Griffin took second in the 100-hurdles (16.08) and sophomore Katelyn Carr (Scituate, Mass.) and freshman Amy Knoblock (Plymouth, Mass.) placed second (2:21.52) and third (2:22.23) respectively in the 800. KSC also had a second place finish the 4x400 relay (4:19.57).
