Keene State ranked in national swim polls
KEENE, N.H. 12/29/10 - The Keene State women's swim team is ranked 20th in the latest TYR/CSCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Poll. The Owls, who received 104 points, are one of seven New England teams in the poll that includes Williams (4th), Amherst (5th), MIT (7th), Middlebury (21st), Wheaton (22nd), and Springfield (23rd).
Keene State is ranked 26th in the College Swimming Coach Association of America men's poll with 75 points. Kenyon tops both men's and women's polls with 574 and 517 points respectively.
Both Owls teams have had record-setting starts to their season. The KSC men, who placed a strong third at the ECAC Championships, have set nine new school marks. Six of those records belong to freshman Drew Ledwith of Keene, who became the first Owl swimmer to post an automatic NCAA championship qualifying time (4:33.99) with his performance in the 500 free at the championship. The Keene State women set a pair of records on the way to capturing its fifth consecutive Little East championship. At the championships, sophomore Kaila Umbarger of Chelmsford, Mass., set a school record and clocked a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 23.63 in the 50 free race.
Following the break, the KSC women's team host Plymouth State on Wed., Jan. 12. The Keene State men return to the pool on Sat., Jan.22 in a home dual meet against Bentley.
