Owl swimmers splash WPI
KEENE, N.H. 11/7/09 - Keene State College men's and women's swim/dive team defeated WPI in a dual meet held at Spaulding Gym Pool On Saturday.
The Keene State women (2-0) won 14 of 16 events to post a 159-126 win. The Owl men also had a fine day in the pool, winning 13 of 16 events to defeat the Engineers 157-127.
Seniors Jackie Foster (Goffstown, N.H.) and Alea Paddock (Newbury, N.H.) were triple winners for the Owl women. Foster won the 100 free (57.20), 500 free (5:22.17) and the 1,000 free (10:54.72) while Paddock had wins in the 100 breast (1:13.40), 200 free (2:06.09), and the 400 I.M. (5:00.78).
Double-wins were posted by sophomore Jillian Whitaker (Gilford, N.H.), in the 100 back (1:02.82) and the 200 breast (2:32.88); sophomore Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) in the 50 fly (27.71) and the 100 fly (1:01.88); and Kristine Trutor in the 50 free (26.43) and the 200 back (2:17.86).
Sophomore Meghan Wilson (Torrington, Conn.) joined O'Leary, Whitaker, and Trutor to win the 200 medley relay (1:57.04). Whitaker, O'Leary, Foster, and Trutor teamed up to win the 200 free relay (1:47.26).
Senior Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.) and juniors Dan Morse (Hope, R.I., and Connor Pennoyer (Norwalk, Conn) each won three races to lead the KSC men's team. Rose was the first swimmer to touch the wall in the 50 free (22.37), 100 breast (1:02.25, and 200 breast (2:18.80), Morse swam to wins in the 200 back (2:02.42), and the 500 free (4:56.42) and the 1,000 free (10:01.55)and Pennoyer won the 50 fly (24.65), 100 fly (54.17), and the 100 free (49.55).
Freshman Justin Churchill (North Springfield, Vt.) and junior DJ Collis (Laconia, N.H.) joined Rose and Pennoyer to win the 200 medley relay (141.42)
Sophomore diver Derek Peabody (Haverhill, Mass.) won the one-meter (210.65 points) and the three-meter (189.90 points) events.
Keene State swims at the University of Maine next Saturday.
