NEISDA: Owls Maintain Lead After Days #2

BRISTOL, R.I. 2/23/08 - Keene State College maintained its slim lead over Bentley College after the second day of competition at the 2008 New England Men's Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Championships (NEISDA) being held at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.

Looking to claim its first NEISDA crown, Keene State has 431 points to lead defending champ Bentley College (405 points) in the 14-team field.

The Owls won a pair of races on Saturday. Freshman Connor Pennoyer (Norwalk, Conn.) finished first in the 50 butterfly (24.40) and freshman Mike Germane (Barrington, R.I.), sophomore Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.), senior Cody Larrimore (Trappe, Md.), and Pennoyer teamed up to capture the 200 medley relay in a school record time of 1:36.56. KSC's 800 freestyle relay team of sophomore Michael Fedele (Sandwich, Mass.), freshmen Patrick Luciano (Warren, N.J.), Karl Balinski (Waterford, Conn.), and Germane picked up a second place finish with its school record time of 7:12.21.

Balinski and Fedele were third (1:45.92) and fifth (1:47.26) respectively in the 200 freestyle race.

Other top finishers for the Owls were turned in by freshman Quinn Doucette (Derry, N.H.), who was fifth in the 400 I.M. (4:30.42), Germane, who was fourth in the 100 back (55.10), and Rose, who took sixth in the 100 breast (1:01.51).

Freshman Tim Thornton (Fairfield, Conn.) finished second in the one-meter diving event with a school record 384.75 points.

The three-day meet concludes on Sunday.
