KSC Men's Lacrosse Names Schairer, Leblanc and Mallon Captains
KEENE, N.H. 1/30/12 – Preparing for their teams' first practice of the season on Monday, Keene State lacrosse coaches announced their captains for the upcoming 2012 season.
Keene State men's lacrosse coach Mark Theriault has named seniors Matt Schairer, Sean Leblanc, and Chris Mallon as his captains.
An attack from Wrentham, Mass., Schairer, a two-year captain and quarterback of the Owls offense, earned first-team All-Little East honors after finishing second on the team in scoring with 47 goals, 27 assists and 74 points. He netted a season high six gals in LEC wins over Plymouth State and Eastern Conn. last season.
Leblanc from Simsbury, Conn., anchored an Owls defensive unit that had the second lowest goals against average in the conference (8.17) and third most effective penalty-killing unit (76.2 success rate). Leblanc, who was named the LEC defensive player of the year, scooped up multiple ground balls in 11 games, including a season-high seven against Eastern Connecticut in the championship game.
A short-stick defensive midfielder from New Fairfield, Conn., the hard-working Mallon appeared in nine games last spring, picking up an assist against Plymouth State and scoring his lone goal in the NCAA tournament against Amherst College.
The Owls posted a 14-3 record, capturing the LEC championship and advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Keene State men's team opens up its season on Feb. 29 at Bates College.
