Little East honors five Owls
KEENE, N.H. 5/3/10 – The Little East Conference honored five Keene State student athletes on Monday.
Men’s
Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Matt Schairer (Wrentham, Mass.), Sophomore, Attacker, Keene State
College
Schairer scored 12 goals and tallied two assists for 14 total
points in a pair of conference wins for the Owls last week. The
sophomore racked up six goals and an assist in victories over
Plymouth State and Southern Maine.
Men’s Track
Athlete of the Week
Peter Najem (Derry, N.H.), Senior, Keene
State College
Najem posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 1,500-meter
event this past weekend at the New England Division III
Championships, when he was the first runner to cross the finish
line in a time of three minutes, 51.26 seconds. The Derry, N.H.
product also captured the 800-meter run in one minute, 53.27
seconds. The Owls finished seventh in the team standings.
Men’s Field
Athlete of the Week
Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.), Junior, Keene State
College
Kolacz captured the hammer throw (187’-08”)
and placed fourth in the discus (148’-02”) at the 2010
New England Division III Championships. The Brentwood, N.H. native
dominated the 21-person field in the hammer, registering a mark of
10’-03” farther than his closest competitor.
Women’s
Track Athlete of the Week
Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.), Sophomore, Keene State
College
Mills earned All-New England Division III honors with her
fifth place finish (18:20.08) in the 5,000-meter race.
Women’s
Rookie Field Athlete of the Week
Janel Haggerty (Guilford, Conn.), Freshman, Keene State
College
Haggerty had the best performance by the Keene State women in field
events at the New England Division III championships, with a
seventh place (5’-02.25”) finish in the high jump.
