Owls Upend Rival Panthers 18-6
KEENE, N.H. 4/10/07 - Peter Lauranzano (Beverly, Mass.) appears to be back at full strength. After missing the first two games of the year, the Owls' senior attack scored a season high four goals and dished out three assists to lead Keene State to a 18-6 victory over Plymouth State University in Little East men's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon in Keene.
With the scored knotted at three-all after the first quarter, Keene State eight unanswered goals. The Owls led 9-3 at the half and 12-4 ant the end of three quarters.
Lauranzano can thank teammate Tony Santa Fe (Derry, N.H.) for his breakout game. "They were looking at Tony so much I just had a lot of open shots," said Lauranzano, who upped his goal production to six on the season.
Santa Fe finished the game with three goals and three assists while Ryan Hazelton (Chester, N.H.), Michael Fontaine (Wolfeboro, N.H.), Josh Nugent (Cheshire, Conn.), and Jamie Lesage (Exeter, N.H.) had two goals each. Casey Brodersen (Derry, N.H.), Alex Loscialpo (Westport, Conn.) and Warren Dill (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had single goals for the undefeated Owls (6-0, 3-0 LEC) ranked 18th nationally.
Sophomore attack Brian Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) had three goals to lead Plymouth State (5-3, 0-3 LEC). Tony Aguir (Northborough, Mass.), Tim Hadley (New London, N.H.), and Tyler Snow (Loudon, N.H.) also had goals for the Panthers.
Despite the one-side game, Lauranzano said the rivalry hasn't lost its luster. "We want to show we're the best in New Hampshire," he said. "This is still a huge game for us."
Matt Johnson (Derry, N.H.) made nine saves for the owls before giving way to Billy Brooks (Lewiston, Me.) who stopped two shots.
Both Billy Morgan (Winchester, Mass.) and Kevin Hayes (Beverly, Mass.) saw action in goal for PSU. Morgan made nine saves and Hayes stopped eight shots.
Prior to the game, KSC Coach Mark Theriault was honored for reaching the 100-career win milestone earlier in the season against UMass-Dartmouth.
Keene State has won the last seven games against their rivals.
Both teams are scheduled to play road LEC games on Saturday. The Owls are at Western Conn. and the Panthers are at UMass-Boston.
