Inside Lacrosse Cites Owls' Johnson
KEENE, N.H. 9/19/07 - The fall athletic season might be
hitting stride, but that hasn't prevented a member of Keene State's
spring teams from getting noticed.
Senior goalie Matt Johnson is one of 10 Division III players
cited by Inside Lacrosse Magazine as a player to watch for the
upcoming 2008 season.
In recognizing Johnson, a Derry, N.H., native, the magazine
wrote, "While some other goalies may have garnered more attention
in 2007, it was Johnson, an honorable mention All-American
recipient last season, who set the gold standard in save
percentage, finishing out the year with a .713 mark. On top of
that, Johnson also finished fourth in the country in goals against
average (5.54) behind a trio of seniors, including first-team
All-American Pat Vaughan and national championship winner Max
Zarchin."
Last season, Johnson and the LEC champion Owls (16-1) ran off 16 straight wins before falling to Western New England College in the second-round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. KSC finished a program-best 16th in the final USILA poll.
