Martin, Mills Earn LEC Athlete of the Week Honors

N. Dartmouth, Mass. 1/9/12 – Junior Ryan Martin (Wayne, Maine) and senior Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.) each earned weekly Little East Conference honors by being named athlete of the week in men’s basketball and women’s indoor track and field, respectively, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Ryan Martin (Wayne, Maine), Junior, Guard, Keene State College
Martin averaged 24 points, 4.5 rebounds, and five assists to lead Keene State to a 2-0 week. The Wayne, Maine product shot 56 percent (13-for-23) and 95 percent (18-for-19) from the foul line to reach 20 points in each contest. On Jan. 7, Martin scored a career-high 28 points, including 12-for-13 from the charity stripe, while pulling in six rebounds and handing out five assists as the Owls defeated Southern Maine to remain unbeaten in Little East action. Earlier in the week, Martin scored 20 points and dished out five assists in the home win over Lasell.  

Female Track Athlete of the Week
Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.), Senior, Keene State College
Mills qualified for the New England Open Championships in the 3,000-meter race this past weekend at the Dartmouth College Relays. The senior from Keene, N.H. covered the course in a time of 10 minutes, 20.54 seconds to meet the regional standard and place fourth overall. She also posted the fifth fastest time in the mile (5:08.52) to finish in compliance with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) standard.

The men’s basketball team is back in action Tuesday night against Western Conn. State at 7:30 p.m., while the track and field squad heads to Tufts University on Saturday for their next meet.
