Seven Owls Honored with LEC Weekly Awards
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. 2/22/10 - Keene State College grabbed seven weekly awards as announced by the Little East Conference office on Monday.
Women's Indoor
Track and Field
Track Athlete of the Week
Allison Chamberlain (Scarborough, Maine), Junior, Keene State
College
Chamberlain continued her impressive indoor track season by racing
to a first place finish in the mile at the New England Division III
Women's Track and Field Championships at Southern Maine on
Saturday. The Scarborough, Maine product won the event with a time
of four minutes, 55.90 seconds, improving on her NCAA provisional
qualifying mark by almost two seconds.
Rookie Track Athlete of the Week
Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.), Freshman, Keene State
College
Competing at the New England Division III championships at Southern
Maine on Saturday, Fitter placed fifth in the 800-meter race with a
time of two minutes, 19.44 seconds. The Branford, Conn.
native is the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week for the second time
this season.

Swimmer of the Week
Kristine Trutor (Holden, Mass.), Senior, Keene State
College
Trutor won the award for having the most points by a senior at the
NEISDA Championships this past weekend in White Junction. Vt. On
Friday, the senior from Holden, Mass. touched the wall first in the
200 back (2:09.15) and was a member of the winning and
record-setting 200 free relay (1:36.89) and 400 medley relay
(3:57.00) teams. The following day, Trutor won the 100 back
(57.65), and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay that posted
a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:46.60. On
Sunday, Trutor won the 50 back in a school and meet record time of
26.79 and was on the record setting 400 medley relay (3:33.63). KSC
defeated Bentley 924-802 to capture its third consecutive NEISDA
championship.
Rookie Swimmer of the Week
Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.), Keene State
College
Umbarger was named the women's swimmer of the meet at the NEISDA
Championships this past weekend as Keene State captured its third
straight title. The Chelmsford, Mass. native won all three of her
individual races and was a member of four winning relays, setting
seven school records and two meet records in the process. Umbarger
won the 50 free (23.79) after posting a meet and school record time
of 23.71 in the preliminary round. She won the 50 butterfly in a
school and meet record time of 24.98, while also capturing the 100
free in a school record time of 1:46.00.

Player of the Week
Derek D'Amours (Agawam, Mass.), Sophomore, Forward, Keene
State College
D'Amours averaged 33.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in a pair
of Little East games for Keene State this past week. The
Agawam, Mass. product shot 57.9 percent (22-for-38) from the field,
including 44.4 percent (8-for-18) from behind the three-point arc.
On Feb 20, he matched the conference high-water mark for points in
a single-game with a 41-point explosion in the conference season
finale against UMass Dartmouth. It's the fourth time on the
campaign D'Amours has registered at least five three-pointers in a
game this season. Earlier in the week, he scored 26 points and
pulled in five rebounds against Plymouth State.
Rookie of the Week
Anthony Mariano (Naugatuck, Conn.), Freshman, Guard, Keene
State College
Mariano averaged 17 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in a 0-2 mark
for Keene State this past week. The freshman guard reached double
figures in scoring in each game, including netting 18 points
against intra-state rival Plymouth State. On Feb. 20, he nearly
posted his second double-double of the campaign against UMass
Dartmouth. Mariano scored 16 points and pulled in nine boards
against the Corsairs.

Honor Roll
Nicole Simmler (Oxford, Mass.), Senior, Forward, Keene State
College
Playing her final home regular season game, Nicole Simmler scored her 1,000th career points in the Owls' 61-43 victory over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday. The senior from Oxford, Mass. reached the milestone at the 7:55 mark of the second hand when she took an inbounds pass and swished a three-point shot. Simmler becomes the 17th player in the program to join the 1,000-point club and the second player this season, joining teammate Kristin Degou. Simmler averaged 21 points in a pair of LEC wins for KSC. She tied her career high with 26 points against rival Plymouth State on Tuesday.
