Degou, D'Amours and DeMasco Earn LEC Honors
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. 1/04/2010 - The Keene State College basketball teams each grabbed player of the week with Derek D'Amours (Agawam, Mass.) and Kristin Degou (Newburyport, Mass.) doing the honors. Also, new addition to the men's team Nicco DeMasco (Swanzey, N.H.) was tabbed LEC Rookie of the week in his first week in an Owls uniform.

Player of the Week
Derek D'Amours (Agawam, Mass.), Sophomore, Forward, Keene State
College
D'Amours was named the most valuable player of the PNC Bank
Invitational at the University of Scranton, where he led Keene
State College to the tournament title by averaging 24 points, 4.5
rebounds, and 3.5 assists in a pair of victories. The
sophomore forward from Agawam, Mass. reached double figures in
scoring in each game. In the opening round against Penn. College of
Technology, D'Amours scored 16 points and handed out three assists.
The following evening, he matched his season-high with five
three-pointers en route to scoring 32 points on 10 made field goals
against Hunter College. For the week, D'Amours shot 48.5 percent
from the floor (16-for-33), 46.7 percent from long range
(7-for-15), and 90 percent from the foul line (9-for-10).
Rookie of the Week
Nicco DeMasco (Swanzey, N.H.), Freshman, Forward,
Keene State College
Playing his first two games for Keene State, DeMasco nearly
averaged a double-double for the week by scoring 13.5 points and
pulling in nine rebounds per game to help the Owls capture the PNC
Bank Invitational Championship at the University of Scranton. The
Swanzey, N.H. product posted his first collegiate double-double in
the championship round against Hunter College, scoring 16 points
and collecting 11 caroms in a 90-84 win. In his Keene State debut,
DeMasco chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds off the
bench.

Player of the Week
Kristin Degou (Newburyport, Mass.), Senior, Guard, Keene
State College
Degou averaged 20.5 points, nine rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5
steals on the way to being named the most valuable player of the
Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. The native of Newburyport,
Mass. reached the 20-point barrier in each game, as Keene State
posted a 1-1 week. She filled out the box score against Goucher
College by netting 20 points, pulling in six boards, handing out
four assists, and forcing three steals in a 66-44 win. In the
championship game, Degou posted a double-double against
Wisconsin-Oshkosh in an overtime loss with 21 points and a
career-high 12 rebounds. In the two games, she shot 46 percent from
the field (14-for-30), 33 percent from three-point range
(5-for-15), and 89 percent (8-for-9) from the charity stripe.
