Vt. sports media recognize KSC's Kathan

Tyler Kathan has been named Vermont's male "At Large" Athletes of the Month for 2008-09 by the Vermont Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

Kathan were selected from among the standout athletes nominated two or more times during the past year for the Vermont Athlete of the Month contest sponsored by the 100-member statewide association. They, along with the 12 sets of monthly winners, are eligible for the Vermont Athlete of the Year, the state's top sports award given annually to the best male and female athletes.

The awards for the Male and Female Vermont Athletes of the Year will be announced at a public banquet at 11:30 a.m. May 31 at historic Plumley Armory at Norwich University. Tickets for the banquet, which also honors Vermont's other top sports award recipients, are now on sale.

Kathan finished his career at Keene State by tallying 1,805 points and 939 rebounds, placing him third all-time in both categories for the Owls. He was a pre-season All-American selection and was named as a third-team All-American by D3Hoops.com after the season. Kathan averaged 18.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists while posting 14 double-doubles this year. Kathan, who won numerous basketball awards in college, was a former standout athlete at Springfield High School, where he was named to a first team all-state selection his senior year by The Burlington Free Press.
