Kathan and Gough Earn LEC Weekly Honors
'KEENE, N.H. 01/17/06 - Keene State College's Tyler Kathan and Ryan Gough have been named Little East Conference men's basketball rookie of the week and men's track athlete of the week, respectively, while Matt Hickey earned basketball honor roll recognition, it was announced Tuesday.
In two conference games last week for the Owls, Kathan averaged 8.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as KSC went 2-0. The freshman forward from Ludlow, Vt. nearly tallied a triple-double as he scored 12 points, grabbed ten rebounds and dished out seven assists in a 103-96 win over the University of Southern Maine. Earlier in the week, Kathan scored five points to go along with eight rebounds in Keene State's victory over Western Connecticut (94-70).
Gough, a senior from Billerica, Mass., raced to a pair of first place finishes at the Tufts Invitational last Saturday. He won the 800-meter run (1:58.90) and the 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:59.85.
A native of Mahopac, N.Y., Hickey averaged 25 points and 4.5 assists in two Owl victories last week. The sophomore guard netted a career-high 31 points, including seven three-pointers, in KSC's win over Western Conn., and finished with 19 points and four treys in the victory over Southern Maine.
The Owl men's basketball team (11-3, 5-0 LEC) will travel to Rhode Island College on Saturday (3 p.m.), while the indoor track teams return to Tufts University on Saturday (11 a.m.) for another invitational meet.
