Smith and Coffin Named to All-Region Field Hockey Team
KEENE, N.H. 11/22/10 – Keene State’s Leigh Smith (Sanbornton, N.H.) and Elizabeth Coffin (Sugar Hill, N.H.) have been name to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region field hockey team. Smith was named to the first-team while Coffin was a second-team selection.
Smith, a senior midfielder, anchored a KSC defense that led the LEC in goals against average (0.90) and shutouts (9), while ranking second in goals allowed (20). Noted for her dashes down field and her defensive work during opposing corner opportunities, Smith finished the season with two goals, four assists, and eight points. She scored game-winning goals against Fitchburg State and New England College and had a key defensive save in a 1-0 win over LEC champion UMass-Dartmouth.
Coffin, a junior forward, was second in the LEC in goals (21) and fourth in points (44). She scored at least one goal in 14 of the Owls’ 22 games and tied a school record with five goals against Worcester State on Oct. 16.
Keene State finished its season with a 16-6 record.
