LEC Chooses Six Owls for Players of the Week
N. Dartmouth, Mass. 11/1/2010 – The Little East Conference has chosen six Keene State College student athletes for weekly honors on Monday.
Men's Cross Country
Runner of the Week
Eric MacKnight (Newtown, Conn.), Senior, Keene State College
MacKnight led Keene State College to a sweep of the New England Alliance and Little East Championships this past weekend in Paxton, Mass. The senior from Newtown, Conn. established a new course record at the Moore State Park with a conference-best time of 26 minutes, seven seconds as the Owls finished 1-2-3. MacKnight captured the individual title in the Little East Championships, while placing second in the New England Alliance race.
Rookie of the Week
Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine), Freshman, Keene State College
Widzgowski earned All-New England Alliance honors this past weekend at the New England Alliance and Little East Championships. The freshman covered the 8-kilometer course in a time of 27 minutes, 30 seconds to place 11th overall in the conference championship and 15th in the regional championship. Keene State regained the Little East Championship for the first time since 2008 and 10th overall.

Runner of the Week
Paige Mills (Keene, N.H.), Junior, Keene State College
Mills set a new Moore State Park course record this past weekend at the New England Alliance and Little East Championships, covering the five-kilometer course in a winning time of 18 minutes, 10 seconds. The junior from Keene, N.H. led Keene State College to the team title in each race, marking the 11th consecutive Little East Championship for the Owls.

Rookie of the Week
Katlyn Simula (Bridgewater, N.H.), Freshman, Back, Keene State College
Simula scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at first-place UMass Dartmouth on Oct. 30, handing the Corsairs their only conference defeat of the 2010 regular season. The freshman from Bridgewater, N.H. also contributed to a stout defensive unit which allowed only one goal over three matches in a 3-0 week for the Owls.
Defensive Player of the Week
Leigh Smith (Sanborton, N.H.), Senior, Midfielder, Keene State College
Smith made an impact at both ends of the field in a 3-0 week for Keene State. The senior led a stifling defensive unit and aided the Owls' transition game in a 3-0 win over Smith and a 1-0 win against UMass Dartmouth. She helped Keene State withstand 11 shots and 12 penalty corners and also had a key defensive save in the Owls' 1-0 win over previously undefeated UMass Dartmouth.

Rookie of the Week
Britanny Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.), Freshman, Midfielder, Keene State College
Boscarino registered three points in the Little East victory over Southern Maine on Saturday. The Ellington, Conn. product came off the bench to score her first collegiate goal and assist to lead the Owls past the Huskies.
