Franklin and Rein join Keene State field hockey coaching staff
KEENE, N.H. 6/17/10 – Keene State College field hockey coach Amy Watson has announced two additions to her staff for the 2010 season. Allie Franklin, who recently completed her four-year playing career with the Owls and Morgan Rein, a standout performer the past four years at rival Springfield College, have been named assistant coaches with the team.
“I’m delighted to have Allie and Morgan join our coaching staff, said Watson, who is set to begin her 21st season directing the Keene State field hockey team. “Both are physical education majors who want to pursue coaching careers, so this will give them an opportunity to learn all the different facets involved in running a program.”
A native of Newington, Conn, Franklin was a member of Owl teams that captured three Little East tournament championships and NCAA berths during her career. A valuable reserve defender and team leader, Franklin came to KSC after playing a season at Eastern Conn. Franklin attended Newington High where she served as a senior co-captain.
Rein from Mystic, Conn., was a highly-honored midfielder/forward at Springfield College. She capped her Pride career by earning All-America, All-Region, All-ECAC, and All-NEWMAC honors last fall. Rein, who fills a spot on the staff held by Maureen Kavanagh the past 11 years, was also named SC’s female team athlete of the year and selected to play in the NFHCA senior all-star game.
Prior to joining the Pride, Rein was a top field hockey and basketball player at Stonington (Conn.) High. A two-time All-State field hockey player, Rein was a member of the Stonington State (Class M) championship basketball team as a senior.
Franklin and Rein will not only be heavily involved in KSC’s scouting and recruiting efforts, but also assists Watson at team practices.
With the addition of Rein, Keene State’s coaching staff now includes three Springfield grads. Watson and Carole Kinsella, KSC’s goalie coach, also played at Springfield. “I’m sure it’s going to add to the rivalry when we go down to play them on Sept. 7,” said Watson.
The Keene State field hockey team opens up its 2010 season on Wednesday, Sept 1 with a home game against Western New England College.
