PAWTUCKET, R.I.--The Keene State College baseball team was predicted to finish fifth in the Little East Conference in 2018 in a poll of the league's coaches, it was announced today.
Keene State, which finished with a 15-23 record and a 5-9 mark in the LEC, ended 2017 in a tie for fifth in the LEC, earning the No. 6 seed in the LEC tournament. The Owls went on to upset No. 20 and top seed the University of Southern Maine in the opening round of the tournament.
The Owls return a strong offense, including senior third baseman Christian Bourgea (.313 BA, 4 HR, 24 RBI), junior All-LEC DH John Tarascio (.388 BA, 4 HR, 24 RBI), junior All-LEC outfielder Connor Longley (.395 BA, 4 HR, 24 RBI), junior outfielder Devin Springfield (.303 BA, 1 HR, 19 RBI), and sophomore first baseman Connor Walsh (.280 BA, 1 HR, 28 RBI). Keene State also brings back sophomore pitcher Andrew Houde (2-5, 4.66 ERA, 2 saves), while welcoming 15 newcomers to the squad.
Keene State opens the season on February 25 at Clark University at noon.
