Doyon named to the D3 Baseball.com All-American team

KEENE, N.H.  5/20/09 - Keene State's Bobby Doyon has been named to the D3 Baseball.com All-American team announced on Wednesday.

A first-team selection, Doyon, a sophomore outfielder from Keene, N.H., led the Owls in several offensive categories including hits (73), doubles (22), home runs (13) and RBIs (73) to go with his .435 batting average.

Doyon said he came into the season with high expectations.  "I didn't want to put pressure on myself, but I did a little bit," he said.  "I didn't get off to the start I wanted in Arizona, but I kept fighting and was able to turn things around at the plate. "

"Being part of such a strong line-up makes it so much easier," Doyon said.  "If you don't get a hit, the guy right behind you picks you up and drives in the run."

"Bobby had an outstanding year," said KSC Coach Ken Howe.  "When you can put a player of his caliber in the middle of the line-up, you know you're going to score some runs."

Doyon will get a chance to see how he will do with a wooden bat in his hands this summer.  The talented outfielder will play for the Protocall Stars of the Atlantic Baseball Confederation College League, a wooden bat league in New Jersey.  "I'm definitely looking forward to it," said Doyon, who will play his first game on Sunday.  "It's my first time playing in a wooden bat league.  My bat might not be as explosive, but I think I'll be all right."

Doyon is the second Owl player to earn D3 baseball.com All-American honors in as many years.  Greg Ford received honorable mention recognition last spring.
