Chevalier & Mabey Join Collegiate Baseball Teams
KEENE, N.H., 5/30/07 - Two members of Keene State's NCAA
Tournament baseball team will be playing in collegiate leagues this
summer.
Jamie Chevalier recently signed a contract to play for the
Lowell All-Americans of the New England Collegiate Baseball League
(NECBL), and Phil Mabey will be joining the Bennington Bombers, a
start-up team in the New York Collegiate Baseball League
(NYCBL).
Chevalier, from Amherst, New Hampshire, said he was contacted by
Harry Ayotte, the All-Americans general manager, shortly after
returning from the NCAA tournament. "As soon as I got the contract,
I sent it back," he said. "It's an unbelievable opportunity to see
what I can do against top players from around the country."
Chevalier, a sophomore who played second and pitched for the
Owls, will be reunited with his former hitting coach Ken Connerty.
Connerty, a former coach at UMass-Lowell, is in his second season
managing the All-Americans.
Named All-New England and selected to the NCAA Regional
All-Tournament team, Chevalier led KSC in hitting (.365), scored 33
runs, belted three home runs, and had 23 RBIs. Chevalier was a key
performer for the Owls in the NCAA regional baseball tournament. In
addition to hitting a home run and driving in four runs at the
plate, he also picked up a pitching win in relief against Curry
College.
A junior pitcher from Williamstown, Massachusetts, Mabey said
he's excited about joining the Bombers. "I'm looking forward to the
challenge of going up against top hitters and working with the
coaching staff," said Mabey. "I can't wait to get started."
A key member of Keene State's starting rotation this spring,
Mabey posted a 4-1 record with a 3.04 ERA. He picked up a win
against top-seed Wheaton College in the NCAA tournament.
Tim Kendrick, a former KSC catcher, is on the Bombers' coaching
staff.
"It speaks volumes for our program that we're sending players to top summer collegiate league teams," said Keene State Coach Ken Howe. "I'm sure both 'Chevy' and Phil will have a great experience and come back to us as better all-around players."
