Stromgren and Stopera Honored by Little East

KEENE, N.H. 4/9/07 - Keene State College's Rick Stromgren has been named Pitcher of the week and Melissa Stopera was selected women's lacrosse rookie of the week by the Little East Conference on Monday. 


Stromgren made the most of his only appearance last week tossing a complete game, nine inning four-hitter in the Owls' 5-0 win over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.  The senior pitcher from Keene fanned five and didn't issue a walk to improve his record to 4-1.  With the win, Stromgen becomes KSC's all-time leader with 17 career victories.


Stopera tallied five goals and one assist to lead Keene State to a pair of lacrosse victories. The Scotia Glenville, N.Y. native registered five points (4-1), including her first collegiate goal,  in a 12-2 victory over Franklin Pierce. On Saturday, Stopera scored one goal in the Owls 9-5 LEC win over Rhode Island College.


Through six games on the season, she is fourth in the team in goals (5), while tied for sixth in scoring with six points.
