Softball team holds Homecoming Alumni game
The Keene State College softball team held a homecoming alumni games this past Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex. Sixteen former Owls, representing different eras, were on hand to play and reminisce about their days at Keene State.
“It’s wonderful,” said Erin Fuoroli. “I love being with the girls and seeing Charlie (Beach). “We’re like one big family.”
“It’s so much fun to see everyone,” said Jessica Starkey. “It brings back great memories that will be with me forever.”
Beach says he enjoys seeing his former players. “It’s always a great time when we can get together,” he said. “It’s a great pleasure to be around them because they’re so much fun.”
One of the busiest players on Saturday was Sarah Campbell, who played in both the softball and soccer alumni games. “I get to double my fun today,” she said.
Alumni fans, Bill and Barbara Brackett, class of 1957, also came out for the game. Residing in Walpole, N.H. in the summer and Naples, Fla., in the winter, the pair has been watching the Owls since 1998. “I never thought I’d become a fan, but I’ve become a softball junkie,” said Bill.
“We love coming out and watching the games and getting to know the players and their families,” said Barbara. “It’s a wonderful atmosphere.”
Currently serving as an Owl coach, Meghan McLoughlin looked in mid-season form. “I pitch every day to the kids, but it’s a little different throwing so people can hit it,” she said.
Other highlights included a run down when Kristy Symonds over ran a base and a home run by Katie Allenson off of Carrah Fisk. “I was a little behind in the count, so I had to swing,” said Allenson, now serving as a swim coach at KSC. “I just went for it. It’s my first home run off of Carrah.”
