LEC Honors Four Owls; Chamberlain Wins Runner of the Week 2nd Week in a Row

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. 12/14/09 - The Little East Conference honored four Keene State Colege student-athletes this week in their weekly awards. From men's basketball Derek D'Amours (Agawam, Mass.) and Tyler Grillo (Saugus, Mass.) earned player and rookie of the week honors. In women's track and field Allison Chamberlain (Scarborough, Maine) earned runner of the week for the 2nd consecutive week, while Shawn Shand (Keene, N.H.) grabbed rookie runner of the week honors for men's track.

Men's Basketball

Player of the Week
Derek D'Amours (Agawam, Mass.), Sophomore, Forward, Keene State College
D'Amours paced the Keene State offensive attack this past week in victories over Mass. College of Liberal Arts and Southern Maine by averaging 24 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The sophomore forward from Agawam, Mass. reached double figures in scoring in each game, including a 29-point performance against the Huskies. On Dec. 8, D'Amours netted 19 points and pulled in six rebounds in a road win against the Trailblazers. Four days later, he drained a season-high five three-pointers at Southern Maine. For the week, D'Amours shot 53.6 percent (15-for-28) from the floor, 54.9 percent (7-for-13) from long range, and 91.7 percent (11-for-12) from the foul line. 

Rookie of the Week
Tyler Grillo (Saugus, Mass.), Freshman, Guard, Keene State College
Grillo averaged 13 points and handed out five assists per game in a pair of Keene State wins this past week. The product of Saugus, Mass. scored a season-high 18 points, on 7-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe, and also pulled in four rebounds at Mass. College of Liberal Arts. Grillo turned in a solid performance at Southern Maine on Saturday, handing out a season-best six assists to go along with eight points and six boards.

Women's Track and Field

Track Athlete of the Week
Allison Chamberlain (Scarborough, Maine), Junior, Keene State College
Chamberlain won the 800-meter and mile races at the Harvard Open at the Gordon Track Center in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday. The Scarborough, Maine product won the 800 with a time of 2:18.77 and posted a provisional NCAA Division III Championship time of 5:03.03 with her victory in the mile.

Men's Track and Field

Rookie Track Athlete of the Week
Shawn Shand (Keene, N.H.), Freshman, Keene State College
At the Harvard Open track meet on Saturday, Shand set a Keene State record with his ninth place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.17). He also placed 26th out of 129 runners with a time of 23.33 in the 200-meter race.
