PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Junior Ty Nichols of the Keene State men's basketball team and senior Hope Walsh from the Keene State women's swimming and diving program, along with the 4x400 meter relay from the Keene State men's track and field program, were honored with Little East Conference (LEC) weekly awards for their outstanding performances last week, it was announced today by the league office.
In a perfect week for Keene State, Nichols was named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week, after averaging 22.7 points per game while shooting 65.8 percent from the field, as the Owls cruised to their fourth straight win. He led all players with 23 points to go along with five rebounds, six assists and five steals in a 73-62 win over Lasell to open the week, and then tallied 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor (3-of-4 from three) in a 100-88 win at Colby-Sawyer, in which he also had six rebounds, nine assists, two steals and two blocks. Nichols finished off the week by scoring a game-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field (4-of-5 from three) to go with four rebounds, four assists and two steals in the Owls' conference-opening 85-45 win over UMass Boston.
Women's Swimming and Diving
Walsh was named LEC Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season after taking third in the mile at the MIT Invitational in 17:28.73, good for an NCAA "B" cut. Her time is currently the 20th-fastest in Division III this season.
Men's Track and Field
Juniors Jared Hannon and Anthony Jennings, along with rookies Brandon Castor and Clinton Mungeta, were named the LEC Relay Team of the Week, after finishing first in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:37.26 at the Smith College Invitational in the Owls' season opener.
